Lingering stares. Envious glances. And that's just the crash test dummies. The all-new 2004 Eclipse is loaded with safety and security features.
As part of the safety cage in the 2005 Eclipse GT, side-guard door beams offer an additional line of defense in a collision. Working with interior door padding, side-guard door beams are designed to resist intrusion into the cabin. They also act to direct crash energy into the safety cage structure and away from the driver and front passenger.
The 2005 Eclipse's body and frame are designed around a RISE (Refined Impact Safety Evolution) chassis that forms a steel cage around the passengers. RISE features a center-mounted, high-rigidity roof reinforcement, a large front bumper beam, high-rigidity doors and door frames with impact beams and energy-absorbing materials.
A sophisticated, dual-function traction-control system is available on the 2005 Eclipse GT (w/AT). Working with the anti-lock braking system (ABS), this feature will automatically apply brakes if it senses even the slightest slip at the wheels. Once the tires have sufficient traction, the Traction Control will gradually release the brakes. This helps the driver to negotiate corners and curves more safely in both wet and dry weather.
Available on the 2005 Eclipse GT, side air bags add yet another layer of protection, in the event of certain serious side collisions.1 They are positioned in the upper outboard sides of the front seats to protect the driver and front passenger. As with front air bags, side air bags are supplemental and work best with the 3-point safety belts. Please wear your safety belt at all times. (GT Premium Only)
