It's sporty, it's fun, it's economical. But it doesn't stop there. The engineers worked just as hard as the designers to make the 2005 Mirage Coupe as safe as it is cool.
Anchors are positioned where children should always ride in the rear seat. Built into the speaker shelf behind the rear seat are strong anchor points for the ring-like attachments that secure the tether strap from your child's safety seat. The child tether strap is standard with most child seats or usually can be purchased from the child safety seat's manufacturer. In the event of an accident, child seat tethers are designed to hold the child safety seat tightly and reduce forward movement of a child's head. Please consult your 2005 MY Mitsubishi Owner's Manual and child safety seat manufacturer's instructions for proper installation.
As part of the safety cage in the Mirage Coupe, side-guard door beams offer an additional line of defense in a collision. Working with interior door padding, side-guard door beams are designed to resist intrusion into the cabin. They also act to direct crash energy into the safety cage structure and away from the driver and passengers.
Front air bags are designed to work in conjunction with the 3-point safety belts to provide additional protection in certain frontal collisions.
Crumple zones provide areas of energy-absorbing body structure at the front and rear of the car. Think of it this way: the center safety cage around the cabin is rigid to protect the passengers, while the front and rear sections of the car are engineered to progressively collapse and absorb impact. And because the Mirage Coupe has its fuel tank tucked safely between and slightly forward of the rear wheels, this feature also adds protection in the event of a rear-end collision.
