Safer. Stronger. More secure. The Montero is completely new from the aggressive front end to the spare tire. Everything has been engineered with your safety in mind.
Working in conjunction with the four-wheel disc brakes, standard anti-lock brakes (ABS) can skillfully balance each tire's traction on a slick surface, helping to preserve steering control and vehicle stability during emergency braking. ABS resists skidding and helps keep the vehicle steady when your foot is hard on the brakes. For even more control, ABS actuation is reprogrammed when the vehicle is shifted into 4WD, providing braking performance that's tailored for use in nasty weather and off-highway terrain.
Available on the 2005 Montero Limited, Active Trac drive system with electronic engagement is highly regarded for its ability to deal with a vast array of driving situations. Shift-on-the-fly from 2H (2-wheel drive) into 4H (all-wheel drive) into drive with confidence in all weather conditions, whether on-highway or off.
Within the Montero's highly reinforced cabin, pillar-to-roof joints are specially reinforced to help maintain vehicle body integrity in the event of collision or rollover. Energy-absorbing material is fitted at A-, B- and C-pillars, where they join the roof, as well as in strategic locations on the steel roof. These features are designed to assist in preventing the occupants' heads from contacting hard metal surfaces in a collision.
The Montero's 2005 monocoque body is designed around a RISE chassis (Refined Impact Safety Evolution) that forms a steel cage around the occupants. RISE features large floor side members, reinforced side sills and engine compartment structural components. Then there's the transmission support crossmembers, which are constructed to provide lateral reinforcement. Together with the rear chassis frame and the roof beams, this structure helps protect the cabin and disburses crash energy away from the passengers.
