The 2005 911 Coupe is a motoring legend. A legend that has evolved over the years to become even truer to itself. A sports car that has been the breeding ground for a host of new automotive technologies. Today's 911 is the embodiment of a technological and aesthetic ideal. Combining passion and inspiration, and a commitment to engineering excellence. As well as being an out-and-out sports car, the 2005 911 Coupe is also extremely practical, comfortable to drive, and sure-footed in even the toughest conditions. It's a car that lacks just one thing: compromise.
The challenge then is to produce a car that is equally suited to everyday use. The 2005 911 Coupe responds to every driver input with absolute precision. On the open road, the lightest touch on the accelerator brings an unrivalled immediacy of response. But uniquely for such a high-performance sports car, it is equally comfortable around town.
Porsche's patented VarioCam variable valve timing system adjusts the inlet valve timing as engine speed increases for minimal emissions and maximum power. By fine-tuning the timing chain tension, VarioCam adjusts inlet valve timing for more efficient breathing at low and high rpm.
Working in concert is the Bosch Motronic engine management system and a two-stage resonant induction manifold. Unlike fixed manifolds, the two-stage system uses a butterfly valve to increase intake flow and boost power at all engine speeds. At low rpm, the valve opens to promote air oscillation for greater intake pressure, lower emissions and enhanced idling smoothness. At higher rpm, the valve opens again to allow quicker induction and maximum performance. Not only are you rewarded with more peak power, but more flexible passing power, with no less than 220 lb-ft of torque on tap from 2700 rpm clear to 7000. When you take into account the fact that the 911 engine's capacity has been shaved from 3.6 to 3.4 liters, you'll begin to appreciate the knack of a Porsche engineer for generating more power out of thin air.
Additionally, the new 911 Coupe includes self-adjusting hydraulic valve lifters with constant valve clearances that result in reduced noise and lower emissions when warming up. Also, with no need for routine valve adjustments, you save both time and servicing costs.
